On November 7th, Bit2Me was honored with the Iberian Lawyer Award for its Compliance work, competing in a category with representatives from major companies like VISA, HP, Nokia, and Meliá Hotels, as well as the presence of the most important banks in Spain.
These awards, with a seven-year history, aim to recognize the excellence of the Compliance teams of large companies in Spain and Portugal. They are granted considering the most important sectors for the economy, distinguishing in each category the best legal team and the most outstanding lawyer of the year.
Bit2Me’s Compliance department, led by João Augusto Teixeira (Chief Compliance Officer at Bit2Me), was awarded the Gold Prize for its great work and trajectory in this field, which the company has strongly committed to since its inception in 2015.
Bit2Me’s Compliance and legal department currently consists of 22 professionals with extensive experience in the blockchain world.
During 2022, they achieved significant progress and set milestones for the company, such as becoming the first exchange in the world to be accepted in the registry of crypto asset service providers of the Bank of Spain and the processing of an innovative Electronic Money Entity license.
Bit2Me is constantly striving to maintain high standards of quality and commitment. The Iberian Lawyer Gold Award adds to other previous honors such as the 2022 Expansión Compliance Award.
In its commitment to customer protection and security, Bit2Me holds the ISO/IEC 27001 Information Security Certification and has become the first European exchange to obtain the ISO 22301, demonstrating our ability to maintain operations even in crisis situations. At the same time, we have security agreements with Ledger Enterprises.
Moreover, this new award also recognizes Bit2Me’s commitment to establishing its physical and fiscal base in Spain, within a regulated environment as evidenced by its registration with the Bank of Spain; innovating and developing its cutting-edge technology, and expanding its customer base to offer them the best and safest experience in the market.
In the words of João Augusto Teixeira,
“The Compliance Department stands out for its ability to provide legal security in a sector traditionally marked by legal uncertainty, having committed to strict compliance with regulations even long before becoming a regulated entity.
We are aware that Compliance goes far beyond the operational part, where we are very recognized for our knowledge and experience, but also includes Corporate Compliance and Corporate Governance, developing solid initiatives in this regard, having obtained the ISO 27001, 19601, 37001, and 37.301.
The quality of the work carried out by Bit2Me’s Compliance Department has earned it a great reputation, with broad recognition in the sector and frequent collaboration with authorities, law enforcement, and regulators. In 2022, Bit2Me made an agreement with the Spanish Government to convert all cryptocurrencies seized by the Justice into euros.”
