- Bit2Me has offset a total of 29 tonnes of CO2 in projects in Chile and El Salvador.
- Its roadmap aims to achieve carbon neutrality and offer its customers a mechanism to neutralise the environmental impact of their cryptocurrency transactions.

The Spanish cryptocurrency platform Bit2Me, which already has more than 20 solutions in its own suite, has offset the CO2 emissions generated in 2020 through ClimateTrade. In total they have managed to offset 29 tonnes of CO2 , the equivalent of the amount of greenhouse gas emissions generated by 6 vehicles for a whole year.
As part of its commitment to achieving carbon neutrality, the exchange has set itself challenging new targets within the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) programme to reduce its environmental impact by 2030. To this end, it has developed a two-phase decarbonisation plan.
The first consists of measuring and offsetting its corporate carbon footprint. The second is to integrate the Climatetrade API so that its customers can offset the emissions resulting from their transactions or operations, which will allow both the company and its users to control the environmental impact of mining, buying, selling and withdrawing their cryptocurrencies.
For its part, Bit2Me is trying to lessen the environmental impact of Bitcoin mining by using low-carbon energy sources while favouring relationships with suppliers that are on the same path.
Thanks to blockchain technology, Bit2Me has offset its carbon footprint by opting for the transparency, decentralisation and efficiency offered by ClimateTrade. Andrei Manuel, co-founder of Bit2Me, assures that “at Bit2Me we are firmly committed to the UN millennium goals and that is why we are moving forward with our CSR policies as the company continues to grow and ClimateTrade is a key partner to meet these goals and ensure that Bit2Me’s impact on the planet is beneficial”.
Projects Bit2Me has been involved in
The company has offset its corporate carbon footprint and contributed to the following projects:
- Chacayes, a hydroelectric power plant in Chile, generates electricity from flowing water, reducing the need to burn fossil fuels to generate power. It plays an important role in helping to meet the country’s growing demand for electricity, reduce CO2 emissions and contribute to its economic growth and the sustainable development of local communities.
- The Berlin geothermal project is an extension of the geothermal power plant in El Salvador, the use of an indigenous and cleaner source of electricity also contributes to avoid the generation of electricity from imported fossil fuel sources, create development opportunities to increase the quality of life of the surrounding communities, contribute to the conservation of biodiversity and reforestation of the area.
“With this initiative, Bit2Me seeks to achieve carbon neutrality and have a positive impact on the environment, which is how any innovative blockchain ecosystem should be,” says Fran Benedito, CEO of Climatetrade.
