One of the most effective scams starts with an offer of help. This is how it works and how you can avoid it.

How it works

Someone calls you pretending to be Bit2Me, your bank or the technical support team of a well-known company. They tell you there is a problem with your account and offer to help you fix it. To do so, they ask you to install a remote control app, such as AnyDesk, TeamViewer or similar.

Why it is dangerous

These apps are legal and useful in other contexts, but they let another person see your screen and control your device. With them, the scammer can get into your account, read your codes and carry out transactions as if they were you.

What to do

  • Never install an app because someone asks you to over the phone.
  • If you have already installed it, uninstall it and disconnect the device from the internet.
  • Message us from the Bit2Me app so we can review your account, and change your password.

Remember

Bit2Me will never ask you to install any app in order to help you.
